- The
latest Infrared Data Association (IrDA) all-member meeting was
held in San Francisco from October 13-15th. Impressive progress
on important and key issues, transpired during this conference.
- ACTiSYS received
the coveted "IrDA Reference Product" award, unanimously
approved
by the IrDA Board of Directors in recognition of our IrDA external
adapters. The list of adapters include: IR220L/IR220L+ (SIR PC
adapter); IR100M (SIR printer adapter); IR2000L (FIR motherboard
adapter); IR2000LB/L (FIR PC add-on card with adapter). The IrDA's
certified Test Labs will now be able to test and approve the "IrReady"
status of the Device Under Test (DUT) by making use of ACTiSYS'
IrDA adapters as test Reference Devices.
- ACTiSYS is
the first and currently only member, among the five IrDA Test
Labs to have implemented the complete "IrReady" and
"IrDA Reference Products" test and certification process.
At this time ACTiSYS IrDA Test Lab-U.S.A. is operational and our
Taiwan facility has now successfully tested four leading Notebook
PC's for "IrReady" status.
- Here at ACTiSYS,
we have already designed, manufactured and calibrated the IrDA
Reference Tester, consisting of both the IR2000B/L and our test
software; IR9000SW/IR9003SW. ACTiSYS will begin selling these
IrDA system test tools to the other IrDA Test Labs. We have also
received purchases from many manufacturers of IrDA components
and systems for their in-house self testing.
- ACTiSYS has
conducted the calibration tests of Bit Error Rate (BER) and IR
transfer speeds of the IR drivers in Windows 95, 98 and NT 5.0/beta
2.0 using this Tester. ACTiSYS has also conducted matrix inter-operability
and BER tests of 5 FIR-equipped notebook PC's of major brands
using this Reference Tester. Results of these tests were presented
at the IrDA meeting.
- ACTiSYS actively
participated in the evaluation and formation of the "IrDA
VFIR (16Mbps) Spec." which received Directional and Draft
status approval. Components based on such standards are expected
by early 1999, at unit prices comparable to those of the FIR spec.
- ACTiSYS also
co-authored the "IrDA Desktop Dongle Spec." which received
approval at this meeting. Our FIR motherboard adapter, IR2000L
is the only such device compliant with this new
Auto ID (IrDA Plug-and-Play) Standards.
- The ACTiSYS
"IrDA Reference Product" certified IR220L/IR220L+, IR100M,
IR2000L, IR2000B/L and the Reference Tester, IR2000B/L+IR9000SW
