ACTiSYS is
to be well represented in the upper echelons of the IrDA leadership.
At January’s
quarterly meeting of the IrDA, held in San Francisco, ACTiSYS’ President
Dr Keming Yeh was elected by the 142-member association to Chair
the Technical Committee. In a further move, in what turned out
to be a highly unusual day for ACTiSYS, Chief Technical Officer
Dr Lichen Wang was also appointed to Chair the Test & Interoperability
Committee of the IrDA. The Marketing Committee is to be chaired
by Robert Stuart of Sharp Corp.
It is a rare
honor for an organization to have two members of the same company
chairing two out of three committee’s within an international standards
association simultaneously. These moves are a reflection of the
high standing ACTiSYS enjoys within the worldwide IrDA community.
In addition
to the recent recognition from the IrDA governing body, Dr Keming
Yeh recently chaired a dedicated half-day session on "Wireless
Connectivity Solution," addressing areas of IrDA, Bluetooth,
HomeRF and mobile data synchronisation at the Portable Design
conference, San Diego, January 25-27. This was followed by an
evening session of lively panel debate devoted to the implications
of the emergence of this technology. Both sessions attracted a
full house. Dr Yeh also chaired a similar Wireless Connectivity
session at the 7th Annual Wireless Symposium and Portable by Design
Conference in San Jose, Ca., February 22-25.
Each of these
prestigious posts increases ACTiSYS visibility in the international
technical community and is indicative of the outstanding contribution,
technical depth and breadth of ACTiSYS.
In product
news: ACTiSYS is now the first company to market with a successful
adaptation of an IrDA USB adapter. Both the IrDA and USB parent
associations have awarded the ACT-IR2000U its compliance certification,
the only such accreditation bestowed world-wide. It supports IR
speeds of 9.6K-115.2K, 4Mbps and needs no external power source.
This new device is ready for a broad market launch in March.
Another unique
and popular product is the ACT-IR100S, intelligent SIR (IrDA-1.0)
RS232 external adapter. This is a unique approach to infrared
communication solution; a compact adapter with built in IrDA hardware
and complete IrDA protocol software. The ACT-IR100S works with
all RS232 ports: modem, printer, instrument, meter, portable PC,
medical devices, or data terminal. It supports IR
speeds at 9.6K-115.2Kbps and uses AC adapter or +5V DC power source.
It is also available as PCB only, ACT-IR100Si.or as IrDA stack
processor, ACT-IR8200IC. It also comes in short-cable (2.5cm)
model, ACT-IR100SC and ruggedized version, ACT-IR100SR. Indeed,
the ACT-IR100S/IR100Si/IR8200IC is the quick, simple, least expensive
answer for any serial device for guaranteed IrDA-compliance.
