Winter 1999 News Release.......
- ACTiSYS has
recently opened IrDA Test Lab operations at its site in Fremont,
CA. and simultaneously at its subsidiary in Taiwan. These sites
are the first of the IrDA's sanctioned Test Lab's to be certified
for compliance with the complete "IrREADY" and "IrDA Reference
Products" test and certification process.
- The primary
function of the five IrDA Test Labs, ACTiSYS will also operate
as one of these labs, is to test and approve consumer products
that are seeking 'IrREADY' status.
- This new
marketing tool, IrREADY, will clearly designate those products
that are compatible with the IrDA specifications and can thus
communicate effectively with other "IrREADY" devices.
This is a current concern for the IrDA developer and end-user.
- ACTiSYS has
designed, manufactured and calibrated an IrDA Reference Tester,
consisting of both the IR2000B/L and our test software, IR9000SW/IR9003SW.
ACTiSYS has further agreed to release its Test Frame software
code via the ACTiSYS Web Site.
- ACTiSYS has
conducted the calibration tests of Bit Error Rate (BER) and IR
transfer speeds of the IR drivers in Windows 95, 98 and NT 5.0/beta
2.0 using this Tester. ACTiSYS has also conducted matrix inter-operability
and BER tests of 5 FIR-equipped notebook PC's of major brands
using this Reference Tester.
- According
to the latest market research commissioned by the IrDA, ACTiSYS
has a 30% share of the infrared adapter marketplace, a market
that is projected to double each year for the following four years.
This was independently outlined in an IrDA commissioned report,
published by Strategies Unlimited of Los Altos, CA.
- ACTiSYS'
IrDA adapters were selected by the IrDA Test Council as an "IrDA
Reference Product"; formal approval granted through the IrDA
Board of Directors. This board consists of 47 members, including
representation from Canon, Compaq, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia,
NTT, Philips, Siemens, Sony and Visa. This eclectic group unanimously
approved our adapters for involvement in this new program.
- ACTiSYS is
now able to market the adapters as the Golden Sample adapters
of the IrDA, with the necessary logo's to match. Differentiating
ourselves from the competition.
